For this month’s “Art Friday,” we’re excited to feature Eric Van Giessen, a member of our Toronto Generous Space Group, who recently published a zine of poetry called “Queerly Faithful” as part of an autoethnographic research study he did with other LGBTQ+ Christians, including several from our community. Eric says of the zine:
Our hope and prayer is that you might resonate with our stories, recognize parts of your own, and empathize with experiences that might be alien to you. We offer our fleshy spirituality as evidence of the possible integration and synergism of Christian faith and queerness. We experience Jesus’ welcome to the Table precisely as queer disciples: we invite you to listen to the prayers he has taught us and receive our stories as gifts to his Church.
This is a recording of Eric reading “Such a Cloak,” one of his own poems from the collection.
